TAKE NO THOUGHT (Trust The Lord To Take Care Of You)

Philippians 4:6-7

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Thoughts come to us all the time. Sometimes, it’s about something that happened in the past or something we’re expecting to happen in future. It could be thoughts about our loved ones, education, health, finances…anything going through our mind at any point in time. The word “anxious” in Philippians 4:6 is translated from the Greek word “Merimnao,” which means “to take thought.” It connotes centering your mind on something in such a way as to become concerned about it. Often, it refers to taking a thought that draws us away from what should be our focus.

When our minds are bombarded with thoughts, the tendency is for us to “take” one or more of such thoughts, and ruminate or brood over them. This leads to worry, and God never wants us to worry. When you allow yourself to be worried over anything, those thoughts draw you away and get you distracted. This is why you must say “No!” to negative thoughts that make you worry.

In Matthew 6:25-26; Jesus said, “...do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on... Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them....” Stop worrying about what you’re going to eat, drink, or wear. That’s what the people of the world pursue, but your heavenly Father knows you need them. Like the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, trust the Lord to take care of you.

PASTOR CHRIS OYAKHILOME The Bible records that in ancient times, humans lived for exceptionally long periods with lifespans exceeding 900 years. However, as sin increased, lifespans diminished. Genesis 6:3 says because of sin, man's lifespan was limited to 120 years. Moses, in his psalms, made an observation that due to sin, the typical lifespan of man was seventy years or eighty for those who were stronger. Even in old age, man’s life was filled with toil and sorrow, ultimately ending in death (Psalm 90:8-10). The Lord Jesus, however, came to address the root cause of this limitation, which is sin. Through His sacrifice, He provided salvation from sin and made eternal life possible. Eternal life includes “deathlessness.” When you were born again, you passed from death to life (John 5:24). The Bible says, “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ” (2 Corinthians 4:6). You’re truly the living tabernacle of God! Christ is alive in you. We are the last generation; the generation called to manifest His glory in the earth. This is what the earth has been waiting for. Romans 8:19 says, “For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” We’re in office; we’ve taken our place of dominion, impacting our world with the glory of God. The major problem with some people today is that they trust so much in their wealth and riches and have lost sight of who truly matters in their affairs, because they think it’s all about money. Never let anything take your attention away from the Lord. Let the Spirit have pre-eminence in your life.
