*PRESS TOWARD THE GOAL*
_(Run Your Race with Purpose)_
*TO THE BIBLE:*
*Philippians 3:14*
_“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”_
*LET’S TALK*
Some runners start a race strong but falter before the finish line. Others stumble at the first sign of resistance. But the one who finishes strong is remembered—not for how fast they ran at the start, but for how they ran when the pressure was greatest.
There’s a race of life, and everyone is involved in that race, whether or not they know it. When Paul said, *“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus,”* the idea most folks get is that of someone inching his way slowly through a press to reach the goal. The Greek word translated *“press”* is *“dioko”*, and it means *“to run swiftly as in a race so as to win a prize.”*
Not only is it important for you to know that you have a race to run, it is even more important for you to know *“how”* to run your race. You must run fast, because the time is short and the adversary will do everything to frustrate you from getting the prize. This is why Paul said *“I run swiftly toward the mark for the prize.”*
What’s that prize? It’s not just talking about heaven; the man wanted to fulfill God’s purpose and calling for his life and finish it completely! No wonder at the end of his life, he could boldly declare, *“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness...”* (2 Timothy 4:7-8).
Like the Apostle Paul, run your race with purpose. Think about your school goals, your friendships, or your talents; what has God put in your life that only you can develop? What is that thing God has called you to do? Commit your whole being to it. Let your heart’s cry be to fulfil God’s purpose and plans for your life. Even small steps count—showing kindness, doing your homework with excellence, standing up for what’s right—they’re all part of your race! Run your race to win, so that at the end, you too can boldly declare, *“I have finished my course, I have kept the faith,”* and then receive the Master’s crown.

*Hebrews 12:1-2* Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, *2* Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
